Last week, I declared that my goal this week would be to prioritize clean eating, yoga, and more cardiovascular exercise. I’m pleased to report that my eating was on target. I want to make yoga part of my daily routine, but that habit is far from formed. (I had substantial yoga sessions on Monday and Saturday and a mini-session today.) I met my weekly goal of 3 workouts, though. I had personal training sessions on Monday and Wednesday, I walked 5.25 miles on Wednesday, and I had a 45-minute walk/run treadmill session today in addition to mowing the lawn.
As I prepare for the coming week, I’m declaring the exact same goals and hoping to hit more of my targets. I want to stay with mostly home-cooked meals composed mostly of vegetables. (I’m about to cook veggies for the week right now.) Eating processed food doesn’t keep me feeling energized, and I am focusing on how I feel and what my body can do. With quality energy from whole foods, I will continue to work toward solidifying my yoga and cardio habits.
To get me in the right frame of mind, I’m revisiting what has become one of my favorite videos of all time. This always puts me in a great mood. Everyone is focusing on what their bodies can do. THAT’S where it’s at, people! I mean, really. Have you ever noticed that everything seems better when you focus on what your body can do, not just how it looks?

Koritha – I don’t always leave a comment but I do read these blogs and enjoy the advice that you share. But, I had to comment this week because I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this message of performance over appearance. Although it’s good to “look” great, it is so much better to “feel” great by being strong and powerful and pushing yourself to and past your limits (something I don’t do nearly enough). Thanks for sharing and good luck with the Yoga. Maybe I will give it (another) try. :0)
PS… Get Your Freak On is one of my workout power songs. 🙂

I’m so glad, Sarah. Thanks so much for the support! Yes, our culture has sold us some serious lies on all of this. Pretty much every message we get about our bodies flies in the face of wisdom, so I’m trying to reconnect to simple truths. Oh, I feel you. That song is EVERYTHING!

I love your blogs. I am working on my priorities. My sisters and I will be starting our meal planning 101 this week. Setting priorities and planning them will get the great execution I need. Keep up the great work.

So glad it resonates, Rasauna. It seems that I never just “get it” and then coast. I have to keep re-committing. But having support makes that process feel less annoying. 🙂

So many great things about this blog! Yay to getting some yoga in! I had let other things interfere with my yoga practice and as a result my balance and flexibility took a hit! I’m getting back into it. You are so right about having to re-commit.
I’m all about the home-cooked meals. I cook a lot of plant based meals so if you are ever in need of a new recipe let me know, I would love to share.
You are so right about our culture of lies. This also applies to the so-called “healthy” alternatives to processed foods. The low fat/reduced fat misleading lie. Convincing us that fat is the problem when really it’s sugar that’s the problem. I could go on and on…but I won’t.:)
I just love it! Meeting goals and hitting targets! You go girl!:)
I would like to add that I too enjoy Get Your Freak On when I’m getting my work out on!:)
