Stunning, isn’t it? This water took Harriet Jacobs to (more) freedom. In November 2022, I traveled to her hometown of Edenton, North Carolina, and the experience lives with me!
I have submitted final grades so I can turn my attention to the copy edits for my Broadview Press edition of Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. What an honor to help readers more fully appreciate her remarkable life and legacy.
My edition features a chronology of Jacobs’s life and a thorough introduction. I also reproduced her narrative but added footnotes (explaining all that might be unfamiliar to today’s readers) and I provided six appendices.
