This weekend, I ran my first half marathon since taking a break from running (beginning in February). It was the Air Force Half Marathon in Dayton, Ohio, and it was really tough! It was hot, hilly, and humbling. 🙂
My PR (personal record) for a half marathon is 2:02:10, which happened in November 2014 at the Richmond Half. This weekend, I finished in 2:24:50. Since I became a runner about 5 years ago, I have always focused on being able to move, not on how fast or slow. I still think that’s the best approach.
So, the finishing time is not what I’d like to improve so much as I’d like to return to my original goal for races: running the entire 13.1 miles. I find it difficult to begin running again if I walk, so I have always vowed to keep running, even if it feels like it might as well be a walk. This race, I could not do that. There were lots of reasons, which I won’t rehearse. Bottom line: I’m aiming to return to my original “just keep running” goal for my next race: the Columbus Half Marathon on Sunday, October 18th.
